Clouds Amaze Me

Clouds amaze me
how easily they make friends
with other clouds, but
always maintain their independence, and
how they put themselves
at the mercy of the wind, that
keeps them from becoming
too set in their ways like mountains.

Clouds amaze me
how they drift in wisps and billows, and
how they dress up as scowling old men
with stately white beards, or
naughty elephants standing on hind legs, or
even battered pirate ships
on a tumultuous sea.

Clouds amaze me
how they seduce my imagination, and
how they make me want to dance, and
how they make me want to be
something other than I am,
if only long enough
to know what it’s like
to be someone or something else.

Clouds amaze me
because they can be whatever
they want to be, and
finally just like good poems, they
leave the right parts of the story untold.

  1. David, Thanks for your comment and updating my link on your site. Never thought about it as children’s poetry, but you’re right. Thanks for the thought.

  2. Don- This would be a good childrens poem. It reminds me of Seuss.

I like the airiness of your new site. I’ve updated my blogmark to you.

    best wishes,

  3. Polona and Aurora…thank you. Clouds are great in how they spark our imaginations. Glad you like clouds and the poem.

  4. Yes, clouds do amaze Don. They are the sculptures of nature, creating in a way the finishing touch of the artist to his/her painting. It’s always a wonder to watch them, and let our thoughts float away to the seventh heaven.

They can be thunderous, and a delight to see, to watch them sailing to wherever they will unleash in whatever quantity to the world below. Or just evaporate, as if they were just a reflection of what once was, but not anymore now.

It’s amazing with how an ease they come in all forms and shapes, and still, there is a pattern within each type of cloud, and reason for the why that it has evolved into what it became. We call it science, and for them it’s just the way they are, how nature has created them from the below to the above.

Yes, clouds do amaze, but sometimes it’s better to be indoors save and sound, then to be around, and have to fight its power within, and the force that brought it all to where it came, the wind, it’s amazing friend, that can be as gentle as a summer breeze, a mother alike, but as strict as a father of the house can be.

Nature, a reflection of ourselves while we being a mirror of itself, and still a creation in the likeness of G-d, male and female. There is nothing alike, but we are all a part of the entire endeavor wherein humankind lives it life, and nature having its point that needs to be heard for we to live happily ever after.
