Lost in Thought

useless, so much what we think
no beginning, no end
one steady stream…of unconsciousness

shifting directions, like the wind
like water, seeking the path of least resistance
often like a bad storm
causing us to run for cover

addicts, all of us, to our minds
to our indiscriminate ideas
wretched habits of thought

no way to think your way out of it
only makes it worse
one thing seems to work…lose your mind
hang out a bit in the now
somehow, thinking minds can’t live there

power of now

  1. I don’t like poetry. I don’t read poetry. I don’t go to poet slams. I don’t like poets. But I stumbled across this poem, which is interesting, down-to-earth, approachable, not too flowery or poety. Thank you for writing it.

  2. Thanks Polona, Dan, Nasra and Floots. Costa Rica is great. Just arrived. And yes Dan, giving the mind a vacation. Nasra: Our minds either work for us or against us. Floots, you got it. Polona, yes our minds and thinking are so vital to us…we just need a break from the monkey brain at times.
