Kitty treats:
small fishy morsels
Animal cracker shapes
Candy to the three calicos
Early evening snacks
tiding them over till dinner
Gobbled whole
like the whale swallowing Jonah
One difference though:
treats eaten, never again
see the light of day
Lucky for Jonah, it was a whale
not a cat, devouring him
Lucky whale, cats don’t like water

quidam58: Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Lahari Chaaterji: Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this poem very much! especially the last line. We have four cats now, but in the past took care of up to twelve feral cats that lived in our neck of the woods. Our cats also love their treats!
Humorous poem. I admire the range of your poems.
Talking of kittens, India is full of stray dogs and cats. Just yesterday a kitten wanted to take shelter in my house. I could not keep it because my mother develops allergies from conatct with animals’ hair. It had been handed over to a shopkeeper.
Many years ago I had adopted a stray tomcat. He used to come to my house regularly for three years but one day he just disappeared.
Kristin, Thanks for stopping by and feel free to post the kitty poem on your blogs. Thanks for doing that.
I never thought of it that way. I have cat lovers in my readership, do you mind if I post this (giving full credit of course) on my blogs?
Gautaimi: Yes indeed, this is a multi-level poem. Thanks so much,
homo escapeons: Thanks for stopping in. Missed you. Hope you are well. I enjoyed your comments. Cats are amazing teachers.
Survival of the fittest. That is law of nature. This conveys so much more. IN the surface is it sweet but with a profound message.
No Kidding! It is one of Life’s most disturbing intorductions to reality when children watch their Cat pounce and play with a terrified, exhausted, little, mouse. The Cat exudes such remarkable indifference to it’s doomed victim. We wonder how this can be the same creature that purrs as it rubs up against our face in the morning?
Considering this propensity to torture prey items, Daniel had a close encounter of the felid kind that turned out remarkably well.
Yeah.
Be a whale of a treat!! I know, real bad, but it’s Monday. Thanks for the laugh!!
Floots: Thanks. That it is! Hope your cat enjoys it.
Andrew: Thanks. You know at times you struggle with how to end a poem. This one just popped into place.
love this for its illogical logic and humour
i shall read it to my cat 🙂
I love the ending! Really like the new look, too.
