Yesterday
three new keys
were made.
Spare keys
but new keys.
Keys brought into being
by conscious action.
Identical keys
opening the same doors
I’ve always opened
but now
with new keys.
Each opening doors
to the world
where I live now.
Then another key
different than the others
shows up in the mail
without my asking.
A world map
showing new worlds
tumbles unexpectedly
from an envelope.
All keys pointing
to coming changes.
The first three
urge me to look
for new ways
to open doors
in the world
where I already live.
The last key points
to a larger world
to be opened
with new keys
soon to be made.

Gautami…thank you and so true. Best wishes.
We have those keys but sometimes don’t know how to use them.
“So often times it happens
That we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key”
– The Eagles, “Already Gone”
Thanks Trinitystar. It’s unlocked and WIDE open.
We have the key … we just need to unlock it.
Great one Don!
Aurora…thank you for saying that. I see what you mean. Watch for poetry from the road. Who knows what will turn up. Thanks again.
Don, yes, because a.) the subject matter is multi-layered, b.) it’s presented in an interesting manner, almost upping it a level per verse, and c.) it’s got a good ending, which is really important, to me at least, in poetry. Good job! 🙂
Thanks Aurora and Polona.
Aurora, really…this is your favorite? Wow.
Polona…yes, keys are powerful.
keys are powerful symbols. love this one, don!
Wow. I think this is my favourite Don Iannone poem thus far.
Thanks Pat and Floots.
Yes, like Christmas in June, Pat. And yes, Floots. It is an ancient lock we must open.
keys doors mazes
it’s all about finding our way
(or knowing we’re already there)
thanks for setting the tumblers moving in this ancient lock 🙂
New keys, like Christmas in June. Excellent reading!!
